During today’s official Battlefield V Live Reveal, the game was shown off to eager audiences ready to sink their teeth into the newest entry in the Battlefield series. During the livestream, The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah was on hand to speak with three producers who worked on the series, revealing that it’ll be set in World War II this time around. Except, as the producers themselves teased, it would be a “unique take” on World War II, which likely is the crux of all the “Battlefield will never be the same” tagline we saw so many times ahead of the official reveal presentation.
The game was also confirmed to feature a new Grand Operations mode, a variation of the regular Operations mode that will help tie into the World War II campaign narrative. Single-player War Stories will also be making a return, with “anthologies,” much like what we saw in Battlefield 1 when it debuted in 2016. For those who prefer to play co-op, a new cooperative mode called Combined Arms will be making its debut when Battlefield V launches as well. The fan-favorite 64-player Conquest is going to be available for play if that’s more your speed, too.
In contrast to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s decision to exclude a single-player mode, the War Stories campaign mode from Battlefield 1 will return with a new tale rife with “human drama” and a focus on the men and women who scaled the Norwegian landscapes all the way through the deserts of North Africa and beyond.
Players will be able to lead their own unique and customizable Company in multiplayer modes as well, which lets you create and customize soldiers, weapons, and vehicles that will change over time. You’ll set out in the new “Tides of War” live service that doffs the Premium Pass of prior games, as all players will now have access to the same maps and modes, with no requirements at present to purchase additional content or other levels, etc.
Battlefield V will be available worldwide on October 19 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. If you preorder the game, you’ll get early access three days ahead of the game’s release on October 16, and EA Access and Origin Access members can try the Play First Trial on October 11. Anyone who preorders any version of the game with the Battlefield V Enlister Offer will get special early access to the Open Beta as well as customization options on launch week, five special weapons, and more.
We’ll bring you additional information about the newest Battlefield V game as it surfaces, but for now make sure to check out the official gameplay trailer.
