We already knew that Battlefield V won’t be a pay-to-win title and it won’t include loot boxes as well. However, it’s almost sure that multiplayer games nowadays will feature some kind of microtransactions and that true in this case too. A Battlefield V Premium Currency has been revealed but it’s use will be similar to that of Overwatch.
The news come from Polygon, where representatives of publisher Electronic Arts confirmed the existence of a Battlefield V Premium Currency will be used for cosmetic items only. Much like Overwatch, and other games featuring cosmetic upgrades to weapons and vehicles, Battlefield V will also make soldiers, weapons and vehicles feel unique, without compromising the pay-to-play experience.
According to their sources, Battlefield V will have a ton of character customization and all will be “roofed” under the Company, which is some kind of hub for all your soldiers, weapons and vehicles. Each and every soldier will have a unique face and clothing and weapons will also be customized, with 7 different cosmetic item areas. Surprisingly, vehicles of any kind will also get their fair share of cosmetics.
Apart from the Battlefield V Premium Currency, a second type of currency will also be available, earned entirely through playing the game. DICE refers to it as “grind currency” and will be used for different types of upgrades. The company also revealed that gameplay progression will be entirely different from cosmetic unlocks. All impactful upgrades to soldiers, weapons and vehicles will be earned in-game.
That means that the Battlefield V Premium Currency will provide the best of both worlds to players, so that if you want to spend money on the game it will be just to look cool and “feel” premium. This model will also be used by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 as it was revealed some days ago so let’s hope that the controversy regarding microtransactions will soon come to an end.
