The Battlefield V subreddit is under heavy ristrictions right now due to fans expressing their discontent about DICE’s decision to include women in the game as well as being overly strict about their use. Things just started getting pretty ugly from there on.
It all started when Battlefield V was announced. Fans all over the Battlefield V subreddit have been worried about the use of women throughout the game, as many claimed that this is historically inaccurate. Truth or not – even though it’s true that women were indeed part of World War 2 – DICE has every right to present a game just how they wanted as much as fans have every right to show their feelings about it.
After a few shots through Twitter and hundreds of Reddit threads from enraged fans, DICE finally addressed the matter but not in the way fans wanted. According to the company, fans should either accept the existence of women in Battlefield V or not buy the game at all.
This could seem like a logic answer to everyone who’s an outsider on this matter but not to Battlefield V subreddit members. Rage posts emerged claiming that DICE’s practices are basically bullying and that they’re just criticizing in a classic way. However, the situation must have gotten ugly since moderators announced the existence of the Historical Accuracy Megathread, where fans can express their discontent in a “civil way”, in order to kill all other related threads.
Who’s at fault here? In every argument both sides are wrong in their own way. For starters, DICE should be more true to their view of Battlefield V. Fans on the other hand should understand that the developers chose the game to be this way and they’re not obliged to change anything about it, if they think it’s what they want to portray.
