Fallout 76 Survival Mode was announced earlier this year; a major new way to play the game which focuses much more heavily on PvP. The mode, which is part of the ongoing Wild Appalachia DLC release schedule, has now launched in Beta. The Fallout 76 Survival Mode Beta could still be tweaked as time goes on. However, for now it removes almost all of the existing PvP restrictions and adds new features like leaderboards.
Fallout 76 Survival Mode Beta is Now Available
Now that the Fallout 76 Survival Mode Beta is available, players can select it as an alternate way to play the game. Players will now be able to choose from Adventure Mode (the original version of the game), and Survival Mode. According to Bethesda, the purpose of Survival Mode is to cater to those fans who have been calling for more PvP options in the game. This way, those players will be able to play the game the way they want. Meanwhile, the addition of Survival Mode actually brings even more PvP restrictions in Adventure Mode; “slap damage” has effectively been removed, meaning that players cannot be killed by another player unless they attack back.
Survival Mode offers all of the normal content found in Adventure Mode. This includes quests, vendors, etc. However, there are no PvP restrictions; everybody is considered to be hostile to everybody else. This makes player interactions much more risky and much more dangerous. Moreover, if you are killed, you won’t just drop your junk. You’ll also drop random aid items. However, with that greater risk does come greater reward. Cap rewards for player kills are doubled, and there are new Weekly Challenges which offer new unique legendary weapons.
Survival Mode will remain in Beta as Bethesda listens to player feedback and finds the right balance for this new unrestricted PvP. However, the mode is likely to satisfy many of the players who have wanted to see more serious PvP in the title since launch.
