Among the many mod projects which exist for Skyrim, there are few that can rival the sheer scope and scale of Beyond Skyrim. Comprising multiple different projects under one umbrella, Beyond Skyrim is an extremely ambitious attempt to expand the game into a variety of new regions. In the project’s first “development diary,” the modding team showcased their progress on the different parts of Beyond Skyrim.
The Current State of the Beyond Skyrim Mod Project
While there are plenty of ambitious mods around for Skyrim, it’s unfortunately the case that many never see completion. In the case of Beyond Skyrim, however, the project continues to make impressive progress. Indeed, some parts of it are almost finished. The new video shows the mod’s sizeable fanbase where things currently stand for the different parts of Beyond Skyrim. First up is Roscrea, which is perhaps the closest to completion.
Beyond Skyrim: Bruma has already been released, and the next part of the mod in that region is Cyrodiil. This region draws heavily on content from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Of particular note here is that the mod team has apparently been sharing assets with the modders working on Skyblivion and Enderal; two of the other largest mods among the Elder Scrolls modding community. This sprawling region is likely to be one of the largest parts of the overall mod project.
Iliac Bay’s update focuses on its impressive soundtrack; a massive sixty-track original score, as well as concept art and initial development. It sounds like this region is progressing very nicely. Atmora, meanwhile, now has two complete areas. Quest development continues apace, as does a unique custom weather system. Beyond Skyrim: Elsweyr is “heavily work-in-progress,” but is also one of the newer parts of the mod. There is even less in a complete stage for Black Marsh, for which there was no gameplay footage yet available.
Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind is taking shape as another large part of the mod. According to the diary, a major announcement for this project is coming early in the new year, but fans were left guessing as to what this might be.
