In the Call Of Duty series, multiplayer has always been focused on progression. As you achieve objectives, kill people, and all around get points, you earn levels. For each level you gain new weapons, perks and so forth. Eventually you will have reached the maximum level. At that point you are eligible for a prestige level. What is a prestige level and how does it affect you in Black Ops 4’s Multiplayer mode? Let’s have a look.
Entering Prestige
Under the Player menu in Multiplayer, you will have an option called Progress And Unlocks. Here you can keep track of your progress and what stuff unlocks at each level. As you can see, the maximum level you can reach is 55, at which point you will have unlocked everything there is to unlock. When you’ve maxed out level 55 however, you can prestige by pressing “Enter Prestige Mode” in the top right corner.
How Prestige Affects Progress
Prestiging will reset you back to level 1 and undo all your progress, allowing you to start over. Why would you want to do that? Because by doing so you are earning prestige, which will be permanently displayed on your title. You will also earn unique emblems and calling cards, exclusive challenges and rewards, an additional custom class slot, and a permanent unlock token. You can spend this token to permanently unlock any piece of gear you wish, meaning you won’t have to level up to use it. If you have a particular favorite weapon, this is very useful.
And although you reset back to level 1 you still keep any skins or customizations you’ve unlocked and weapon levels in Create A Class. This might make it more tempting to prestige, given in earlier titles you would lose those as well.
