For Call of Duty fans, this is an exciting time of the year. We are hearing a lot of news about the forthcoming Black Ops 4. This highly anticipated game is the direct follow-up to 2015’s Black Ops 3, and is being developed by Treyarch. It will be the 15th game in the COD franchise, and is being stylized as “Black Ops IIII” (rather than the expected “Black Ops IV”).
When Is Black Ops 4 Coming Out?
We already know a few things about the game. Black Ops 4 is dispensing with the single-player campaign, and will include a combination of co-op and multiplayer game modes. Reportedly, it will take place in a “near-future setting.” But when will the game be released?
Your first guess would probably be “sometime in November,” right? Every COD game since Call of Duty 2 has come out in November. The schedule has become so predictable as to easily be taken for granted.
This year is an exception. We don’t have to wait until November to play Black Ops 4. The release date is October 12th, 2018.
Why so early? The likely reason is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming out on October 26th. An earlier release date for Black Ops 4 may help prevent the game from being overshadowed by the RDR2 hype. These are very different games, so this seems unlikely, but the decision is still understandable.
Regardless, there is certainly no reason to complain! We have one less month to wait before we can play the new game. Black Ops 4 will be available for PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Want to make sure that you get your copy on release day? Don’t wait in line—just pre-order so that you can download right away on October 12th.
