Earlier today, Treyarch rolled out a major new patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it addresses several key issues which players have been frustated about. Foremost among these is an increase to the amount of Weapon XP which players earn in both Multiplayer and Zombies; something which had been criticised as too little.
The Key Black Ops Cold War Patch Notes
“Coming out of last week’s 2XP + 2WXP event,” explains Treyarch; “we’ve made some additional tuning changes to global Weapon XP earn rates across the board. Starting today, you’ll now level up your weapons and unlock more attachments faster than the previous standard rate in both MP and Zombies.”
Alongside this major improvement, Treyarch have also fixed a problem related to Weapon XP in Zombies. This issue was reportedly causing players to earn less Weapon XP than intended in solo matches and later rounds. Weapon XP earn rates are one of the areas which players have consistently criticised since the game’s release. Complaints have often stated that it requires too much grinding to earn Weapon XP in both MP and Zombies.
This has been a major contributing factor in some players shifting back to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. (Although it remains to be seen whether this shift will end with the launch of Season 1 next month.) As further thanks for players’ patience waiting for adjustments for Weapon XP gain, Treyarch has announced that they will be running two more 2WXP events during December. It’s currently unknown exactly when these events will be taking place.
Aside from the Weapon XP changes, today’s patch doesn’t include much else. It does bring a fix for a bug causing the Napalm Burst Ammo Mod to not award Weapon XP, however. In addition, it closes a gap in the new Nuketown ’84 map which allowed players to slip out of bounds without dying.
