Call of Duty fans can look forward to plenty of new content when Season 5 launches next week for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War & Warzone. The new season features no less than five new maps, the new Double Agent game mode, and a new Multiplayer Scorestreak which could have a significant impact on the game; the Flamethrower.
Black Ops Cold War Season 5 – New Scorestreak
“With the DZ hotter than ever before,” writes Treyarch; “both sides have brought the heat to extinguish the opposition”. That ‘heat,’ is very literal in this case, in the form of a new Flamethrower weapon. Only available as a Scorestreak, the Flamethrower works in a similar fashion to the existing Combat Bow and Hand Cannon. Essentially, it will be a special weapon that offers considerable power but is lost when the owner dies.
Functionally, the Flamethrower will work much as one would expect. The weapon projects a blast of flame at relatively close range, washing the target area (and any unfortunate enemies) with fire. Needless to say, the weapon will be deadly up close, dealing considerable damage while also disrupting enemy players who must face into the onrushing flames to fire back, if they dare. Of course, the weapon has two key downsides; one being its limited range, and the other being the attention it will no doubt draw. A subtle weapon the Flamethrower is not.
According to Treyarch, the Flamethrower will be a relatively “low-cost” Scorestreak Weapon. As such, players may start to see it appearing often in Multiplayer. Indeed, the Scorestreak could become especially deadly on smaller, close-quarters maps. Players may also find it a useful tool to help progress towards earning high-cost Scorestreaks, as it has the potential to engage and eliminate multiple enemies up close in a way that the Combat Bow and Hand Cannon do not.
