Treyarch recently unveiled the first official look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s highly-anticipated Zombies mode; Dark Aether. In the wake of that reveal, more details have emerged regarding the mode’s features, including the confirmation that it will have full cross-gen cross-play; the first Zombies mode ever to offer such an option.
Black Ops Cold War Zombies Has Cross-Gen Cross-Play
“Whether you’re a long-time Zombies veteran who also plays Multiplayer,” writes Activision; “or a first-time Call of Duty player completely new to Zombies, expect to drop into the fun faster than ever before with friends and the greater community, no matter the platform or generation you play on.”
Both the Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode and the game’s core Multiplayer will feature full cross-play. Interestingly, this will actually be the first time ever that a Call of Duty Zombies mode features cross-play. However, there is another layer to this feature in Cold War. With the game launching alongside a new console generation, its cross-play will also be cross-gen. As a result, gamers on the current-gen Xbox One, PC, and PS4 will all be able to play with each other, as well as with gamers on the next-gen Xbox Series X and PS5.
Another significant change for this iteration of Zombies is that time spent playing the mode will now advance your seasonal Battle Pass. It will be indistinguishable from playing Multiplayer or Warzone in this regard. Of course, various weapons will be available in the mode. However, players will also now be able to enter the Zombies mode with their own loadout; featuring their own Gunsmith-crafted weapons. As such, Zombies should feel mildly less separated from the rest of the game. Plus, it means that players who prefer Zombies won’t be forced to play other modes to complete their Battle Pass each season.
