Last week, Blizzard has announced that their funky, colorful IP – Overwatch will be hitting Nintendo Switch after the official release on consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) and PC. As of now, Overwatch is live on Nintendo Switch and players can download the game from Nintendo Store.
Recently, we’ve received some information regarding the physical copies of Overwatch. And according to some new sources, it seems that the physical copies of Overwatch won’t include the cartridge. So, you will just get a code for the game that you’ll need to redeem on your Nintendo Switch to actually download the game.
No Overwatch Launch Party
Last week, Nintendo had announced that there will be an Overwatch Launch Party hosted in New York. As Overwatch is getting released on Nintendo Switch, during this launch party, players who signed up will get a chance to meet some of the voice actors of Overwatch (Mercy, Tracer, Moira, Doomfist, etc). But, things have changed as of now.
“Gather your team and head to #NintendoNYC Wednesday, 10/16 from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM (without reservation) and from 5:30 PM – 7 PM (reservation required) for Blizzard’s launch event celebrating #Overwatch: Legendary Edition releasing on #NintendoSwitch!”
Yesterday, Nintendo Switch’s twitter updated on this situation regarding this launch party of Overwatch in New York and said, “Please be aware that the previously announced Overwatch launch event scheduled for Wednesday, 10/16 at NintendoNYC has been canceled by Blizzard. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Sadly, there is no launch party for the Overwatch launch on Nintendo Switch. You’ll probably know why this is happening if you’re following news and updates regarding Blizzard’s statement from last week. Every major mainstream media has covered this story. Canceling a launch party is really bad for both parts – Blizzard and Nintendo Switch. But for now, we just have to wait and see what happens.
Overwatch was released on May 24, 2016, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
