It’s been well known at this point that Overwatch 2 will be shipping with a story campaign that is PvE content for the first time in this franchise. Overwatch 1 currently has the PvP mode only that contains Quickplay, Arcade mode, and Competitive mode along with the training (if you’re a new player to the game). At this point, we don’t know how long this new story campaign of Overwatch 2 is going to be, good thing is that Overwatch’s game director Jeff Kaplan gave us a hint on it.
Overwatch 2 Story Campaign Hinted
In an interview by The Washington Post, game director Jeff Kaplan talked about how Overwatch 2 will deliver the franchise’s first-ever PvE content in the game. “I play a lot of games. I can’t think of a single DLC or expansion of this magnitude,” said Kaplan while speaking to The Washington Post. He went on saying, “[It will be] a complete story experience like you would expect from any AAA blockbuster game”
Now, if we talk about the story campaign length of a AAA title, God of War has a campaign story of 25 hours while Mortal Kombat V’s storyline is about 5 hours. So, this phrase from Kaplan gave nothing to none confirmation on how long the story campaign of Overwatch 2 is going to be when it ships out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
“There are so many people who are deeply engaged with our characters because we’ve put these heroes at the forefront,” Kaplan said. “People have fallen in love with them who aren’t necessarily the best PVP players, and they have a tough time sometimes in a competitive setting. They would love to engage with the characters in a way that is a little bit less high pressure on them. So we felt like, you know, if we could deliver the one really massive feature to our fans, it would be to blow out the co-operative side of the game.”
