Coming just ahead of the one-year anniversary of Borderlands 3’s release date, Gearbox has officially revealed their fourth story DLC; Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck. Set to launch on the 10th of September, this fourth campaign add-on will literally take players within the insane mind of Krieg, the playable DLC Vault Hunter from Borderlands 2.
Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck
“Brilliant scientist Patricia Tannis may have cracked one of the galaxy’s greatest mysteries,” explains Gearbox; “What makes the Borderlands’ psychos so uniformly deranged? She believes the answer lies with Vaulthalla, a mythical place that induces insanity in all who learn its true nature. Of course, your average psycho isn’t going to peacefully sit still and share Vaulthalla’s secrets, so the closest you can get to a willing participant is Krieg, a fellow Crimson Raider and the most badass psycho there is.”
In order to learn the secrets of Vaulthalla from Krieg, players will use a machine created by Tannis to directly enter his consciousness. Interestingly, this means that both of Krieg’s personas will feature in the DLC. Indeed, both versions of the character have lines in the trailer, and it certainly seems as though exploring Krieg’s bizarre psyche is going to be the weirdest expansion to Borderlands 3 thus far.
A gameplay reveal for the Psycho Krieg DLC will be airing later this week as part of IGN’s Gamescom Studio showcase. More specifically, the reveal will air on the 29th of Saturday at 1:25 PM PT. After that, the fourth campaign add-on will be launching on the 10th of September. It is the last of the four planned DLC releases included with the game’s Season Pass and Deluxe Edition. It’s currently unknown whether Gearbox plans to release any “Year 2” content for the game. However, it’s likely that much of the studio’s focus will soon shift towards the impending next-gen release of Godfall.
