Among the four different Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters, FL4K stands out as particularly unique. Not only are they capable of using an array of different animal companions, but they are also a robot; only the second-ever robotic Vault Hunter after Claptrap was playable in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Now, while it initially seemed that FL4K had access to three different pets, his skill trees have revealed that there are technically nine!
Borderlands 3 FL4K: All of the Available Pets
Technically speaking, FL4K has three individual pets; a Skag, a Jabber, and a Spiderant. Each is associated with one of FL4K’s three skill trees, and can gain a variety of benefits and effects from certain skills. However, the Borderlands 3 FL4K skill trees also reveal that each of the three pets can be evolved, expanding the number of possible pet variations from 3 to 9.
First up is the Spiderant Centurion, which is part of FL4K’s Hunter skill tree. Equipping the Spiderant as FL4K’s active companion grants the robot constant health regeneration, starting at +1% of his maximum Health per second. FL4K can also order the Spiderant to charge and attack enemies. However, you’ll be able to evolve the Spiderant into one of two different forms; the Scorcher or the Countess. The Scorcher pet will occasionally deal incendiary damage to nearby enemies. Plus, it will also provide FL4K with constant elemental resistance, in addition to the normal Spiderant benefits. In the case of the Countess, this pet grants FL4K permanent damage reduction. Plus, instead of charging enemies, the Countess will burrow below the ground and then burst up from below enemies with a blast of corrosive damage.
The next pet which FL4K can equip is the Guard Skag, which is attached to the Master skill tree. The Skag grants FL4K a permanent damage boost starting at +5%. Plus, when given an attack command, the Skag will vomit acid on nearby enemies. Its two possible evolutions, later in the skill tree, will change it into either an Eridian Skag or a Great Horned Skag. The latter is great for damage-centric playstyles, adding a +10% gun damage boost to its normal damage boost. Instead of vomiting acid, the Great Horned Skag charges enemies and sends them flying. Meanwhile, the Eridian Skag adds a +5% Fire Rate increase to FL4K if equipped. Plus, it can generate singularities that will pull in nearby foes!
The final pet available to FL4K is the Jabber Sidekick, as part of their Stalker skill tree. Armed with its own pistol, this is the only pet capable of making ranged attacks. Not only does it grant FL4K a +5% speed boost, but FL4K can also order it to throw radiation barrels at enemies. Its two possible evolutions will turn the Sidekick into either a Beefcake Jabber or a Gunslinger Jabber. The former swaps its pistol for a shotgun and adds a +10% maximum health increase to FL4K in addition to the normal speed boost. Instead of hurling barrels, the Beefcake can bring out a melee weapon to push enemies away. The Gunslinger, on the other hand, uses an SMG and grants FL4K a +5% boost to their Critical Hit Damage. Instead of barrels, the Gunslinger can pull out a Rocket Launcher to attack with.
