The month-long celebration of Borderlands‘ 10-year anniversary is almost over, but Gearbox still has two more week-long events to run. The first of these, the Borderlands 3 Mayhem on Twitch event, is now live. Following on from last week’s Eridium event, Mayhem on Twitch offers new rewards and bonuses for both the game’s Mayhem Mode and its ECHOcast Twitch extension. It also begins just a few days prior to the start of Bloody Harvest, a major Halloween-themed event which will run from the 25th of October to the start of December.
The Borderlands 3 Mayhem on Twitch Event
The Borderlands 3 Mayhem on Twitch event went live in-game earlier today. For most players, the benefits lie in the game’s Mayhem Mode; “players who enable Mayhem Mode will see an increased drop chance for Anointed gear, increased XP gains, and reduced values for various Mayhem Mode penalty modifiers,” explains Gearbox. This mode can only be enabled once players complete the main story. It allows players to activate various in-game modifiers which increase the difficulty while also increasing the rewards players can earn. The mode is the primary endgame activity for Borderlands 3.
However, the event also affects Borderlands 3’s ECHOcast Twitch extension. This extension allows gamers playing Borderlands 3 on Twitch to interact with their audience and vice versa. Viewers can spawn badass enemies, for instance, and earn in-game rewards of their own. During the Mayhem on Twitch event, Badass Viewer Events will become more frequent, while Rare Chest Events have a 100% guaranteed win rate instead of 25%. Moreover, the change to Badass Viewer Events is actually permanent and will persist after the end of the event.
To make use of the ECHOcast extenstion as a Twitch viewer, fans simply need to link their SHiFT and Twitch accounts. SHiFT is a free site run by Gearbox and doesn’t require you to actually own Borderlands 3. With your accounts linked, you can use the Twitch extension and earn rewards through Rare Chest Events. These grant items which you can then claim in-game in your Mailbox. If you don’t own the game, you can still earn rewards, and you can claim them whenever you do decide to purchase the game.
