The rumors about the third title to the Borderlands franchise are not random at all. What is not clear yet is when Borderlands 3 is going to be announced. Gearbox had some issues with their staff in the past, and it seems that this problem has still not been resolved yet.
The development of Borderlands 3 is taking some time. Back in 2016, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford confirmed its development without giving much information. Knowing of Gearbox’s search for someone to fill a writer position gives us more information about Borderlands 3 release than you might think.
There were rumors about the possibility of a 2019 Borderlands 3 release. However, the search for the writer was announced in 2017, and as of yet, there has not been anyone to fill the position. Therefore, the third title might be even further away than we had hoped. It might even be beyond 2020. The company also said that they did not fill the writer’s position because they do not necessarily need one.
Gearbox did not make a Borderlands 3 announcement at the E3 2018 convention, which has us thinking that Borderlands 3 might not arrive for at least two more years. Borderlands 2 was released back in 2012, and six years have almost passed without even an announcement of its sequel. Moreover, there is something even more surprising than that.
One of Pitchford’s statements made the third Borderlands dream walk even further away. He commented that Borderlands 3 could be the next Half-Life 3. That can mean that the third Borderlands title might be coming along even more slowly than we anticipate.
The only thing that might hint at a faster release of the third title of the franchise is that it has been too long since the previous title. Even if they give us all the remastered editions in the world in the meantime, the gap will still be too broad. Knowing the secrecy behind Gearbox’s statements, they would not have let anything slip out even if the game is going to come next year.
