At long last, Gearbox has officially announced when Steam users will be able to get their hands on Borderlands 3. Ever since launch, the game has been exclusive to the Epic Games Store. However, next month, the Borderlands 3 Steam release will bring it to the platform. In fact, the PC version of the game will actually allow for crossplay between Epic and Steam versions of the game.
When Fans Can Expect the Borderlands 3 Steam Release
Earlier today, Gearbox made a major presentation at PAX East, during which they unveiled the trailer for Guns, Love, and Tentacles; the second Borderlands 3 story DLC. In addition, Gearbox’s Dan Hewitt was able to confirm the release date of the Borderlands 3 Steam edition. Borderlands 3 will finally be available on Steam on the 13th of March, next month. In fact, the game is now listed on Steam, allowing players to add it to their Steam Wishlist ahead of the launch.
As an added bonus, Hewitt confirmed that PC gamers won’t be kept separate in two different platform eco-systems. When the game launches on Steam, the Borderlands 3 PC version will implement cross-play between the Epic Games Store and Steam. This is reportedly thanks, at least in part, to the SHiFT system which underpins the game’s matchmaking system. As such, if you have friends who already have the game on Epic but you’ve been waiting for the Steam release, you’ll be able to play with them straight away, without any concerns because of the different platforms.
Of course, Steam users have plenty of content to catch up on, all of which will be available at launch. Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, the first story DLC, is the most notable inclusion, of course. However, there is also the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, and more. Plus, Steam users will only have to wait a few days before the launch of Guns, Love, and Tentacles on the 23rd of March. Certainly, they’ll have no shortage of content for the foreseeable future.
