The next free content release for Borderlands 3, Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite was revealed during the last episode of the Borderlands Show. While the Bloody Harvest event has yet to draw to a close, the Takedown is due to release on the 21st, in just a few days’ time. In fact, it will be releasing the day after the next episode of the Borderlands Show. (During which Gearbox is expected to launch a full reveal of their first campaign DLC.)
Borderlands 3 Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite
Unlike the Bloody Harvest event, which is due to end in the first week of December, the upcoming Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite will be a permanent addition to Borderlands 3. The free content will be the first of several ‘Takedowns’; high-difficulty areas designed for Level 50 Vault Hunters which will provide players with a new form of endgame content. Effectively, they will be the Borderlands 3 equivalent of a ‘raid’; a 30-45 minute mission designed specifically for teams of four players. While solo play will be possible, it will be extremely difficult. The first of these Takedowns, the Maliwan Blacksite, will pit players against the toughest enemies which Maliwan has to offer.
“Lorelei helped lead the charge against Maliwan’s troops during their attempted hostile takeover of the Atlas Corporation on Promethea,” explains Gearbox; “and she’s wary that they might come back to try and finish the job. In order to stave off another potential invasion, she’s asking you to take the fight directly to Maliwan with a preemptive strike on one of their most secure, highly guarded facilities.”
Taking place on a totally new map, the mission will include new SpecOps Maliwan enemies like Riot and Stealth Troopers. Of course, it will also feature no less than three all-new boss fights. Fans have only gotten a glimpse of one of these so far; a massive mechanised and shielded boss called Wotan the Invincible. True Vault Hunter Mode is also available, making the mission even harder. Of course, given the difficulty of the mission, the loot is extremely good. The Maliwan Blacksite will feature exclusive loot that won’t be available elsewhere, including new cosmetic items.
