Following the release of Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot last month, the first Borderlands 3 event of 2020 will be an event centred around the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite. However, this event, which was meant to start in the first week of January, was delayed at the last-minute by Gearbox. Now, the studio has clarified when the event will actually be launching, as part of the game’s first 2020 patch notes.
Gearbox’s Latest Borderlands 3 Takedown Event Update
“Thank you everyone for your patience as we work on the scaled Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite event,” writes Gearbox; “We were unable to bring it to you during New Years, but we are looking to start the event next week!”
The message features as part of the latest round of Borderlands 3 hotfixes; the first hotfixes of 2020, in fact. For the most part, this was a relatively minor update. It doesn’t contain much more than a few bug-fixes, and a slight reduction to the health of the Anointed Enforcer. At the end of the patch notes, however, Gearbox clarifies that the Borderlands 3 Takedown event will now be launching on the 16th of January. The event will last throughout the rest of the month, before ending on the 30th.
If you’re unfamilar with this upcoming event; Gearbox is planning to change the matchmaking system for the Takedown for a limited time. During the event, the Takedown will scale its difficulty for any party size ranging from 1-4 players. (Until now, the Takedown has only allowed for full parties of 4 players, with a matchmaking system to enforce this.) This means that, for the first time, players will be able to attempt solo runs of the Takedown. “You’ll be able to look forward to a slightly easier Takedown as you aim to grab as much loot as you can,” explains Gearbox; “If you’ve wanted to experience Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite but were having a hard time making progress or finding a party, this is the perfect opportunity to jump in and wreak havoc on Maliwan’s most elite soldiers and robots.”
