Last month, Gearbox released the first Borderlands 3 Takedown; Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite. This free endgame mission features new enemies and 3 unique bosses, as well as a heightened difficulty with more limited respawn mechanics. However, it was also designed for a full squad of four players. Now, as part of a limited-time event, Gearbox will be making it possible to take on the Takedown solo.
Changes Coming for Borderlands 3 Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite
Gearbox recently released a round of hotfixes for Borderlands 3. This update, among other things, brought the long-ongoing Bloody Harvest event to an end. The next update, expected to arrive on the 19th of December, will feature the upcoming DLC; Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. However, at the end of their most recent patch notes, Gearbox revealed that there is something else to look forward to for Borderlands 3 this December.
“At the end of the month,” they write; “look forward to spending the new year with Maliwan in Borderlands 3! In a time-limited event, the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite will be scaled depending on the number of players in your party. You’ll be able to play solo or with a party of any size to score all that sweet Takedown loot!”
It’s currently unknown when this upcoming event will actually begin. However, the statement that players will be “spending the new year […]” suggests that it will come at the very end of December. Presumably, the studio will release more details closer to the time; including how long the event will last and how the respawning mechanics will be different, if at all. Whatever the case, it will be the first chance that players get to try the Takedown solo, without automatic matchmaking. Of course, the Takedown is also balanced for four players, making it very difficult even with two or three. Whether you plan on trying a solo run, or challenging the Takedown with a friend or two, be sure to leave some free time at the end of the month!
