Thus far, Gearbox’s promotions for Borderlands 3 have focused mostly on the game’s over-the-top action and exotic settings. Although the four new Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters have been shown, fans haven’t learnt all that much about them. That may soon change, as Gearbox has announced that new character details will be coming in the next two weeks. As we build up to that, we examine what we know already about Amara, Moze, Zane, and of course, FL4K, “The Beastmaster.”
Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters: FL4K
“An emergent AI driven in an ongoing quest for self-discovery, FL4K wanders from world to world accompanied by beasts,” explains FL4K’s official cosplay guide; “While they feel a connection with the primal wisdom of animals, the social constructs of humans are strange to them. On their endless hunt, FL4K’s loyal Skag, Spiderant, and Jabber companions help them track and claim their quarry, be it human, Vault Monster, or anything in between.”
At present, the official cosplay guides are practically the sole source for information about the Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters. FL4K seems to be continuing the tradition of having a Vault Hunter with AI companions; mirroring Mordecai from the first game, Gaige in the second, and Wilhem in the Pre-Sequel. However, FL4K will be the first to have three companions all at once. Mordecai and Gaige could both call on a single companion, while Wilhelm was able to summon a pair of drones.
Not much is currently known about FL4K’s play-style beyond that, or indeed, his identity. While other new Vault Hunters can be connected to parts of the series’ lore, FL4K is more of an enigma. However, fans of the series will no doubt recognise some of his companions. Skags have been a staple of the Borderlands series since the first game, after all, as have Spiderants. The third creature is referred to as a “Jabber”, which may be something new. Indeed, with Promethea and other planets set to feature in Borderlands 3, Jabbers may be native to a totally different world.
