Just days after its announcement at PAX East, the Borderlands: Game of the Year edition is now available for purchase. This remastered version of the original Borderlands was one of several new things announced by Gearbox last week, along with a new Ultra HD texture pack for The Handsome Collection and, of course, Borderlands 3. (The release date of which was actually revealed today!)
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and More Available Now
The Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is the first ever remaster of the original Borderlands. Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! were both remastered for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. However, the original Borderlands was not included in that bundle. Now, players can return to the game where it all began. The remaster comes with Ultra HD, 4K graphics. Additionally, it features a brand-new, four-player, split-screen local co-op mode; a feature which wasn’t available in the original game. Of course, the Game of the Year Edition also comes with all four expansions which were released for Borderlands.
Also launching today is the new Ultra HD texture pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. This new pack brings the same Ultra HD, 4K graphics that feature in the Game of the Year Edition to Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Best of all, this pack is totally free to download. “Borderlands has never looked so handsome,” stated Gearbox, when the pack was announced; “Experience Pandora in all of its PS4 Pro Enhanced, Xbox One X Enhanced, 4K Ultra HD and HDR glory with this free content download!”
Thus, in one fell swoop, Gearbox’s entire existing Borderlands catalogue has been completely remastered; providing players with an ideal opportunity to revisit it before the release of Borderlands 3. The new game will be launching on the 13th of September, later this year. As such, the game is likely to have a major presence at E3.
