Bryce Harper is a flat-out beast on the diamond. Jimmy Fallon is the king of late-night TV. So, what happens when one of the best hitters in baseball squares off against The Tonight Show host in a battle of MLB The Show Home Run Derby? Let’s find out!
Harper, Fallon choose sides
When you are playing a video game, you usually select your favorite player. However, when you are actually IN the game, you play as yourself!
That is exactly what Bryce Harper did when he squared off against Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. Fallon played as one of his favorite sluggers – New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
Judge was so excited for Fallon to put up a good showing that he sent him a quick video telling him “Good luck against Harper. And yeah, just don’t suck!”
Each player was given four minutes to see how many home runs they could produce – and here is how it went down.
Harper starts fast
The video game was pretty darn close to real life as Bryce Harper wasted no time hitting tape measure bombs! With several landing well into the upper deck, one reaching an estimated 446 ft., Harper smashed 5 home runs during his time at bat.
However, on this day Jimmy Fallon was not to be denied!
Fallon got out of the gate quickly as he hit the first pitch he saw for a home run and the chase was on. Although he did struggle a bit after that, Fallon hung strong. After tying the score at 5-5, Fallon hit the game-winning homer with just 20 seconds left on the clock to claim the victory.
Fallon, as Aaron Judge, of course, took a victory lap around the field while all Harper could do was watch in disbelief.
Maybe Bryce, who is the cover athlete for the latest MLB The Show game, needs to take some tips from Jimmy on how to play!
