Thanks to Bungie’s recent reveal event, we now know that there is plenty of paid content on the way for Destiny 2, content which includes September’s Forsaken expansion and an Annual Pass that will grant access to three smaller expansions in 2019. However, Bungie also recently shared an in-depth roadmap of upcoming features it will be bringing to Destiny 2 in July and September of this year, and now the studio has confirmed all of those features will be available regardless of whether or not a given player purchases the Forsaken expansion.
During the Forsaken unveiling, Bungie also shared an updated content roadmap that showed both the previously launched 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 updates for Destiny 2 along with the upcoming 1.2.3 and 2.0.0 updates. Both updates will be quite substantial, with the 1.2.3 update (set to deploy on July 17) bringing with it new features such as 6v6 Crucible Quickplay, a Solstice of Heroes seasonal event, the return of Bounties, and more. Meanwhile, the 2.0.0 event will launch alongside the Forsaken expansion on September 4, bringing with it gear collections, in-game triumphs, random weapon rolls, and much, much more. However, some fans were confused as to which of the 2.0.0 features, if any, would be locked behind the Forsaken expansion, and it turns out none of them are.
Bungie game director Christopher Barrett recently confirmed via Twitter that all of the roadmap features will be free, no purchase of the Forsaken expansion required:
The items on the Roadmap are available to all players.

What this means is that some of the more exciting features slated for the 2.0.0 update, features such as a brand new Crucible mode, four new Crucible maps, a bulk shader deletion button, 200 additional Vault slots, and everything else listed on the roadmap will be available to all Destiny 2 players, no additional purchases necessary. Of course, it sounds like Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will be very much worth the price of entry since it will add in, among other things, new sub-classes and supers for all Guardian classes, new outdoor zones to explore, a new story campaign, a new bow and arrow weapon type, and a new PvE/PvP hybrid mode called Gambit.
