Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion will be bringing a bunch of new features to the game, including a major rework to the weapon slot system and the daily heroic story missions that were such a hit in the original Destiny. One new feature which will benefit all Destiny 2 players regardless of whether they buy the expansion or not will be the new Collections system, and now Bungie has explained exactly how players will be able to manage their collections.
In the most recent This Week at Bungie blog post, Bungie touched on the upcoming Collections system, with Destiny 2 investment designer Matt McConnell delving into several specific points about how the system will function. According to McConnell, the Collections system will keep track of every weapon, armor piece, ship, shader, Ghost, Sparrow, and emblem a player acquires, unlocking it in their corresponding in-game Collections tab. Even better, the system will also retroactively count any item a player had in their inventory when the Warmind DLC launched and any item they acquired after that point.
McConnell assured fans that they can safely dismantle any unwanted items now and still have those items added to their Collections when Forsaken arrives. However, if you dismantled an item before the launch of Warmind, you’ll have to reacquire it if you want it to count towards your Collection. Once the Collection system is live, players will be able to reacquire any previously obtained item from their Collection for a small currency cost, and the cost will match the currency they would gain by dismantling the item (preventing unnecessary currency conversions).
In other good news, since shaders will cost currency to withdraw from the Collections tab, Bungie is removing the Glimmer cost for applying a shader to an item. However, when it comes to the upcoming randomized perk roll weapons and armor, the news isn’t so good. At launch, any Year 2 weapons or armor that sport randomized perk rolls won’t be purchasable from the Collections tab, though Bungie is working on a solution that will ideally allow players to “save” their favorite perk rolls to the Collections system. As for the Power Level of items reacquired from the Collections tab, McConnell says they will be close enough to the player’s current Power Level to warrant using (with a little infusion), but not high enough to create a potential leveling exploit.
Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion is scheduled to launch for all platforms (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC) on Sept. 4.
