One of the major criticisms that was leveled at the original Destiny was that much of its ancillary lore wasn’t viewable within the game itself. Instead, players had to head over to the official Destiny website if they wanted to read up on any of the entries they unlocked in the expansive lore repository that Bungie called the Grimoire. Now, Bungie is making it a little easier to keep all of the Destiny series’ lore at hand thanks to a series of upcoming hardcover Grimoire books.
The book series, which Bungie is calling the Destiny Grimoire Anthology, will get its first volume (titled ‘Dark Mirror’) this upcoming fall season. According to Bungie, the inaugural Dark Mirror volume will contain 128 pages of Destiny lore which is pulled from the same Grimoire material that players once unlocked by playing Destiny itself.
Here’s an official description of Destiny Grimoire Anthology Vol. 1: Dark Mirror:
“Until now, the myths, mysteries, and machinations of the Destiny universe were found hidden throughout the worlds – enticing threads that hinted at a greater tapestry. The Destiny Grimoire Anthology weaves tales from multiple sources together for the first time, casting new light on Destiny’s most legendary heroes, infamous villains, and their greatest moments of triumph and tragedy.”
Destiny Grimoire Anthology Vol. 1: Dark Mirror doesn’t yet have a specific release date, but it will arrive sometime during the fall, 2018 season, and Destiny fans can pre-order the first volume now for $24.99. It’s also not yet clear just how many volumes Bungie plans to release, but we can at least assume there will be a minimum of two volumes in total.
