Since it first opened at the end of last week, Treyarch and Activision have since transitioned the ongoing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta from Early Access to free access; granting all PS4 players the ability to play in the Beta for free. However, Xbox and PC players don’t have too long to wait for their chance to play.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Weekend #2
Thus far, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer has only been playable on PS4; first in the brief Alpha event, and now in the first Beta weekend. The latter event first opened at the end of last week, initially giving only players who pre-ordered the upcoming game Early Access. As the weekend came to a close, the Beta opened up to all PS4 players.
On the 15th of October, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta will open for both PC and Xbox One users. However, just like the PS4 portion of the event, it will initially only be available in Early Access. That means that players will need to have pre-ordered the game in order to access the Beta. On the 17th, two days later, the Beta will open for free to all players on both platforms. The launch of the Beta on other platforms will also herald the launch of another major multiplayer feature; Cross-Play.
When the Black Ops Cold War Beta opens on Xbox and PC on the 15th, cross-play will also become available on all platforms. Players on any platform will be able to play with anybody on any of the others. Of course, the game will separate controller players separately from keyboard-and-mouse users. If players with different control schemes join the same party, the game will automatically matchmake those players with keyboard-and-mouse users.
