Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1 was due to launch next week, bringing forth the first new injection of post-launch content to the game since its release, with a simultaneous content launch for Call of Duty: Warzone. However, Activision has now announced a delay to the start of Season 1.
Black Ops Cold War Season 1 Delayed
Rather than launching this coming Thursday, on the 10th of December, Black Ops Cold War Season 1 is now due to start on the 16th, six days later. In a recent blog post announcing the delay, Activision wrote that; “It’s an unprecedented amount of free content and the teams are currently prepping for the biggest Season One launch week ever seen. For this to occur, we’re taking a few more days to finalise everything before unleashing this massive drop of new, free content to the community.”
The announcement was given alongside several confirmed details about the upcoming season. These include, for example, more than 30 base weapons from Black Ops Cold War coming to Warzone, together with their many Blueprint variants. Warzone will also be getting a new “Gulag experience,” as well, although Activision didn’t reveal the details of this expansion.
Black Ops Cold War itself, meanwhile, will be getting a range of new maps. According to Activision, this will include four new 2v2 Gunfight maps, together with several 6v6 maps and a new Fireteam map. “This offering includes a battle through a sprawling luxury complex within the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles,” writes Activision, before revealing that the new map will be Raid; a classic map from Black Ops II.
To thank their audience for their patience for the delay, Treyarch plans to launch an extra Double XP/Double Weapon XP in Black Ops Cold War. This event will begin at 10:00 AM PT on the 12th of December. It will remain active until the launch of Season 1.
