Call of Duty Black Ops 4: Multiplayer Overview Video

The iconic fast-paced multiplayer of the Call of Duty series will return when Black Ops 4 launches later this week. To help prepare players, Sony and Activision have uploaded a new multiplayer overview video that covers the component’s major highlights.

Check out the Black Ops 4 multiplayer overview video.

Black Ops 4 Multiplayer Overview

The video, which includes commentary from Treyarch Co-Studio Head Dan Bunting, runs through the main talking points of multiplayer. Black Ops 4 will bring back and expand upon Black Ops 3’s multiplayer specialists system. According to Bunting, Treyarch strove to include specialists who can both operate well on their own and support team play. This means that no matter a player’s preferred playstyle, there should be a specialist for them.

That same philosophy of player identity also applies to Black Ops 4’s weapons. Bunting says the Treyarch team worked hard to give each weapon a unique gameplay profile. Ideally, every player should find a weapon that speaks to them and gels with their preferred engagement method.

As for game modes, Black Ops 4’s multiplayer will have two newcomers: Control and Heist. In Control, two teams will alternate between attacking and defending a pair of static capture points. Each player only has one life in Control, mimicking the format found in similar games like Rainbow Six Siege. Like Siege, Black Ops 4 features signature multiplayer avatars with unique abilities, so Control should fit right in.

As for Heist, teams must locate a bag of cash and bring it back to their home base. Heist will also impose a limited-lives mechanic and force players to rely on map-based weapon drops. Bunting says the limited-lives mechanic will encourage teams to stick, and hopefully work, together.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will launch in a few days on October 12. Unsurprisingly, the game will have a massive day-one update. One of the changes included in the day-one update will be a tweak to the Blackout mode’s revive times.
