Discovering the various easter eggs hidden in Call of Duty Zombies modes has always been a communal effort. However, that sense of community has grown tainted in more recent Call of Duty entries. Players see little point in discovering the easter eggs for themselves when those with advanced access have already done so. With that in mind, Treyarch has decided to do things a little differently for Black Ops 4’s Zombies experience.
Black Ops 4 Zombies Unlock Timer
Treyarch confirmed via Reddit that a global unlock timer will prevent early discovery of the Zombies easter eggs:
“We know how important it is for fans to discover the secrets hidden within each launch day experience together as a community. Therefore, in the spirit of doing everything we can to create a spoiler-free, 100% level playing field for Easter Egg hunters around the world, we’re trying something new for the first time: Black Ops 4 Zombies Easter Eggs will be enabled worldwide in Voyage of Despair, IX, Blood of the Dead, and Classified at 10AM Pacific Time on Friday, October 12.”
Some players, namely streamers and YouTubers, will still undoubtedly have an advantage during the easter egg hunt. However, the unlock timer should at least ensure the easter eggs aren’t already spoiled before Black Ops 4 even arrives.
Treyarch also mentioned in the post that it will support Zombies with special events, new features, and other updates. The studio also teased “something extra special” for Zombies fans so let the speculation commence.
At launch, Black Ops 4 will have a total of four separate Zombies maps. Three of the maps are available to all players while the fourth is part of the Black Ops Pass. The Black Ops pass will also grant access to four additional post-launch Zombies maps among other benefits.
Before players can dive into the Zombies mode, they’ll first have to download a sizeable day-one update. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will launch in full on October 12.
