Games of Summer, the first global seasonal event for both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone, is due to begin tomorrow. Spanning the next 10 days, Games of Summer will give players the chance to represent their country and earn both medals and rewards by competing in five solo Trial events.
The Call of Duty Games of Summer Event
The Call of Duty Games of Summer event is due to begin tomorrow, on the 28th of August. The event is a first in the history of the Call of Duty franchise, offering free access around the globe to all players. Every day from the 28th to the 1st of September, a new Trial will launch in both Modern Warfare and Warzone, until all five Trials are active in both games. Each of these is a short, solo challenge of skill, from target shooting to parkour.
If players can complete these Trials well enough, they’ll earn either a Bronze, Silver, or Gold medal. These contribute to a nation-wide tally, with the gamers of every country competing globally. Of course, there are other in-game rewards on offer, ranging from simple XP boosts to Legendary weapon blueprints for the highest-scoring competitors. Players who earn a gold medal in all five Trials, for example, will get the Legendary Assault Rifle Juliet Blueprint.
Each day, the global rankings will be visible for Games of Summer, displaying the top-scoring 15 countries. The total scoring is weighted by the country’s participants, giving every nation a chance of success. (i.e. the United States won’t simply win by default for having more contributing players.) Games of Summer is a relatively short event. After its launch tomorrow, it will only be live until the 7th of September. Notably, the event will end the day before the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal.
