It’s not every day that a video game helps to capture a robber, but it looks like that’s exactly what’s happened here. An armed robber in Maryland who held up a 7-Eleven has now been arrested by the Montgomery County Police after a certain bag he was holding could be traced to, you guessed it, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
The 21-year-old Logan Stefon Lawson was seen robbing the Germantown store on May 19, and there was plenty of footage of him wearing a ski mask and identity-concealing clothing, but nothing to definitively connect him to the crime. However, he was carrying a bag that looked pretty familiar. One of the police officers ended up noticing that Lawson was in fact carrying an item that was given out to anyone who preorders Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 ahead of its debut this October.
“Detectives were able to confirm that Lawson pre-ordered the game and received the bag,” said the Montgomery County Police Department, as they also received several tips to help name him as the suspect. They later found him and arrested him at a motel in Gaithersburg on May 25, where there was evidence of the robbery. He’s since been charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
It doesn’t make a lot of sense why you would carry a branded item like this one around with you when committing crimes, and that ultimately lead to this criminal’s downfall. Imagine that being the reason you’re going to jail — because you’re carrying around a bag you got for preordering a game.
Currently, Lawson is being held without bond. Unfortunately, it looks like he’s probably going to go away for a long time. His reserved copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 probably won’t be waiting for him when he gets back, either. Looks like he won’t have to worry about staying on top of any of the game’s reveals ahead of release.
