The Call of Duty League 2021 season is due to begin early next year, with the return of new changes to tournament seeding and Majors. To celebrate the upcoming start of the new season, Treyarch has released a “Call of Duty League 2021 Launch Pack” which is now available in Black Ops Cold War.
The Call of Duty League 2021 Launch Pack
Similar to past tie-in cosmetic bundles themed around the Call of Duty League, the 2021 Launch Pack is a store bundle featuring a selection of themed and branded cosmetics. These include new Stickers, Calling Cards, and Emblems, together with a black and white Operator skin. The aim of the bundle is evidently to hype up the launch of the 2021 season, which is coming up very soon.
“Tournaments are back,” explains a recent breakdown of the changes to the League’s structure in 2021; “as high stakes Majors that will feature all 12 teams in the Call of Duty League competing in double-elimination competition”. The breakdown goes on to explain that group play matches will pit teams head-to-head to determine tournament seeding. These matches will take place during three Home Series weeks which will precede each of the five Majors.
Just like the 2020 season, teams will be competing to earn CDL Points; these can be earned with each win over the course of the year-long season. Bonus points will be available to score for performing well at the Majors. Ultimately, only eight of the twelve teams will qualify for the 2021 Call of Duty League Playoffs. The four lowest-scoring teams will be eliminated.
Of course, this will also be the first season to be played in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The standard match format in Cold War will be 4-v-4, best-of-5 matches. The tournament will be played entirely on PC using League-sanctioned controllers. The full schedule for the 2021 season has yet to be announced. However, fans should expect more news and announcements relatively soon in the new year.
