More than a month after the game’s release in late-October, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s first official season launches today, bringing new content aplenty along with the game’s first Battle Pass. While Modern Warfare’s launch focused heavily on its single-player campaign, Infinity Ward has firmly shifted into catering for multiplayer; Modern Warfare Season One boasts six new maps with more to come, new weapons, modes, and Spec Ops missions.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season One
Activision is calling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season One; “the largest ever content drop in Call of Duty history,” and it’s easy to see why. The first season is bringing a veritable ton of new content to the game. Just in the realm of maps, players are getting three new core multiplayer maps (all of which are classic maps from the original Modern Warfare), two new Gunfight maps, and a huge new Ground War map, and there are apparently more coming before the season concludes! (Note that only some of the six revealed maps are available right now, while others will be joining the map rotation later in the season.)
The season also includes three new game modes, although only Infected is available today. Reinforce and Gunfight O.S.P. will be coming later in the season. Spec Ops, meanwhile, gets five new missions; Operation Just Reward and Operation Strongbox are all-new. Meanwhile, the Bomb Squad, Grounded, and Pitch Black missions are “Classic”. There are also plenty of new cosmetic items and rewards coming to the game.
Of course, the season also introduces Modern Warfare’s first Battle Pass. This new pass, which costs 1,000 COD Points in-game, gives players access to 100 tiers of rewards; new cosmetics, caches of COD points, and Blueprints, among other things. 20 of these tiers are available for free to all players, however, and among those 20 are the season’s two new weapons; the Holger-26 and RAM-7.
