Less than an hour ago, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare finally became available to play. Or so it seemed. As is to be expected, the enormous influx of new players seems to be causing significant issues for the Modern Warfare servers. Some players are struggling to connect, and Activision is already working on resolving the issues. Of course, this should not be remotely surprising to anybody.
Players Struggling to Connect to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Servers
The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is likely to be the largest game launch of all 2019, and while it may have a core story campaign, its focus is, and always has been, on multiplayer. Now that the game has launched, hundreds of thousands of players (or more) will be booting up the game for the first time and likely jumping straight into multiplayer. That means the Modern Warfare servers suddenly being flooded with hundreds of thousands of players all at once. As a result, it’s not surprising to see that players are struggling to connect.
Server instability is a fact of life for most triple-A multiplayer games at launch, when the sudden influx of new players initially overwhelms the servers. This instability usually passes after a short period, so players shouldn’t be concerned. (Unless this instability persists beyond the first day or so.) Certainly, given the resources available to Activision and Infinity Ward, they should be able to address these issues relatively quickly.
Of course, the server issues have prompted thousands of gamers to take to Twitter and other social media platforms. As of the time of writing, the word “Servers” is already trending in the United Kingdom, with over 50,000 tweets. (Suggesting that the issues are more widespread than Activision’s Tweet makes it sound.) For now, gamers will have to wait patiently until the servers stabilise again. Hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later.
