Call of Duty: Vanguard was only recently announced, but PlayStation owners won’t have to wait much longer before they get their first chance to play it. The first preview Alpha event of the upcoming game’s Multiplayer will be available to play next week, from the 27th of August.
The Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha Event
The Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha is due to begin at 10:00 AM PT on the 27th of August and will be live until the 29th at the same time. This two-day event will only be available to play on the PS4 and PS5. Xbox and PC gamers will have to wait until a later event. Importantly, this Multiplayer Alpha will be freely available to all; gamers won’t need a special invite code or to have pre-ordered the Vanguard. Players won’t even need a PlayStation Plus subscription.
The focus of the Multiplayer Alpha is Champion Hill, a brand-new game mode which Activision has described as the next breed of Gunfight. In form, Champion Hill is reportedly similar to a Gunfight Tournament, with several teams competing through a series of matches. The mode will offer four maps, each with different “reactive” environments. However, Champion Hill itself is actually one large map split into five parts. These consist of the four “Arenas” where matches take place, and the central Buy Station Area, which serves as a spectator area for eliminated players. Plus, players will get to try out several of Vanguard’s firearms and 10 of the attachments. Four Operators – Arthur Kingsley, Lucas Riggs, Polina Petrova, and Wade Jackson – will be usable.
In Champion Hill, players will fight in teams of either 2 or 3, competing in round-robin deathmatch tournaments. Like Gunfight, every player starts with the same Loadout. However, players can collect Cash, which is scattered around each map and also earned from eliminating enemy players. This can be spent to upgrade your starting Loadout during Buy Rounds, which take place between Combat Rounds. Players will be able to purchase different starting weapons and equipment, as well as Perks and Killstreaks.
