Earlier today, Activision and Sledgehammer Games released a full reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard, as well as the first official details about the upcoming game. Taking place during WWII, Vanguard will feature a full story campaign, spanning four theatres of the global conflict.
The Story Campaign of Call of Duty: Vanguard
As the reveal trailer hints at, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s story campaign will feature a range of locations and characters. Players will take on the roles of four playable characters, each fighting in a different theatre of the war. Activision describes the campaign as; “deeply engaging and raw,” with; “the signature combat you’ve come to expect from Call of Duty.”
The exact details and locations of each arc of the story campaign are still under wraps. However, Sledgehammer has confirmed that players will be fighting in North Africa and the Pacific, as well as on the Eastern Front and Western Front. The four protagonists in Call of Duty: Vanguard will be as follows:
- Private Lucas Riggs, 20th Battalion, Australian 9th Infantry Division, British Eighth Army.
- Sergeant Arthur Kingsley, 9th Parachute Battalion, British Army.
- Lieutenant Wade Jackson, Scouting Squadon Six, United States Navy.
- Lieutenant Polina Petrova, 138th Rifle Division, Red Army.
According to Activision, each of these characters will have to overcome the chaos of their respective warzones to rise; “from the trenches to become one of the original Operatives; the prototype for the modern special forces soldier”. This does appear to be a focus of the campaign, which reportedly follows Task Force One, an early multinational Special Forces unit – bringing to mind the multinational Special Forces factions from Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War.
“Whether dogfighting over the Midway Islands,” writes Activision; “defending Stalingrad with a sniper’s precision, airdropping over France, or blasting through advancing forces in North Africa, this is a deeply engaging and raw campaign […]. Test your mettle across beautiful but battle-scarred war fronts as hope strives to triumph over conflict.”
