Call of Duty: Warzone, the long-awaited battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, is finally available to play. Moreover, Warzone is actually free to play, even if you don’t already own Modern Warfare. Following today’s release, Infinity Ward has already begun to make tweaks to the game in order to handle the sudden influx of new players.
The Launch of Call of Duty: Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone launched earlier today on all platforms, with Modern Warfare owners getting a four-hour headstart over new players. The battle royale game is now available to play for all, with two game modes; Battle Royale and Plunder. While the former should be familiar to anybody who’s played a battle royale game before, it does feature some interesting and unique mechanics, such as the Gulag. The latter mode, Plunder, is a much more original game mode in which squads compete to gather Cash.
With so many players all swamping Warzone at once, Infinity Ward has been making a few tweaks to cope with the demand during the day. “If you’re already in Warzone,” wrote Infinity Ward on social media, earlier today; “we’ve lowered the player count requirements needed to start a match. Staying in lobbies until they’re full will help you find matches quicker”. The studio also launched a small day one patch which fixes a bug affecting rewards in Battle Royale. The patch also enables text chat in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer.
If you’re getting started in Call of Duty: Warzone, or looking forward to doing so soon, be sure to check out all the details on the two new game modes, and the five different vehicle types available in-game. Additionally, if you want to earn more Cash, you’ll need to learn how to activate and complete Contracts; an important part of both the Battle Royale and Plunder modes.
