Call of Duty: Warzone Players Can Score Kills with Nonlethal Rocks

Players are still getting to grips with the new mechanics of Call of Duty: Warzone, but it seems that some people are already finding ways to subvert the intended systems. The Gulag, a prison which allows eliminated players to earn their way back into the game, has a mechanic which lets spectating players throw non-lethal rocks. Only, it turns out that these rocks aren’t always non-lethal…

How to Score Rock Kills in the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag

When you arrive in the Gulag in a match of Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll wind up spectating an arena-style area in the prison. Here, eliminated players take turns to face each other one-on-one. The winner gets to drop back into the match. Meanwhile, the loser has to go back into the Gulag until their teammates buy their way out. During these fights, other players watch from the sidelines and can throw rocks at the combatants. If a player is struck by a rock then they take a single point of damage. However, they are supposed to be non-lethal, and that means that they cannot actually kill players. If a player gets down to 1 hit point, the rocks are ineffective.

Call of Duty Warzone Gulag Rock Kills 2

However, it turns out there actually is at least one way to score a kill with a rock. In fact, it’s even possible to score a double kill if you time it right and have good aim. Players have discovered that it’s actually possible for a rock to set off a Trip Mine if one of the fighters puts one down. In one case, a Reddit user named GotVengeance was able to set off a trip mine and kill both combatants. User burek_with_yoghurt was able to replicate this feat, and it seems that in such a case, neither of the duelling players earns the kill. Instead, both players end up back in the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag. The player who actually set off the mine doesn’t get out either though.

It’s unclear if this effect is intentional, as it doesn’t appear to be a bug per se; it’s possible that it is, and it’s simply a very rare occurrence. Of course, it’s also possible that the developers never planned for rocks to have such an effect. If so, then this may be altered in a future patch. Whatever the case, Infinity Ward hasn’t commented on the situation to clarify.
