Earlier today, CD Projekt Red released a brand-new forty-second teaser trailer for Gwent: Crimson Curse, the first official expansion for the Witcher Card Game. After a long period in pre-release form, Gwent finally launched late last year, alongside Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. This new Gwent DLC will be the first of its kind, and looks set to bring a host of vampiric new content to the free-to-play title.
Crimson Curse: The First Gwent DLC Expansion
“The Blood Moon is rising,” says CD Projekt Red; “This is a time of the Crimson Curse, a time of madness and despair. A dark ritual performed by a mighty higher vampire Dettlaff turns the moon blood red, corrupting the land and its inhabitants. No one is safe and there’s nowhere to run – new breeds of monsters are awaking from their slumber, thirsting for blood. Will you join Dettlaff in his quest for revenge and destruction or choose to fight back and protect the innocents?”
Dettlaff van der Eretein, a major antagonist from The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion, appears to have been cast as the villain once again in Crimson Curse. As he unleashes a vampiric ritual upon the land, new cards and abilities are coming to Gwent. In fact, the expansion will add more than 100 new cards. This includes 31 neutral cards and at least 14 cards for every faction; although vampires are certainly the focus, there will be much more than vampires.
The Gwent Crimson Curse expansion will be launching for free at the end of the month, on the 28th of March. Gwent is, of course, a free-to-play title. Between now and then, CD Projekt Red will be revealing some of the upcoming new cards. Five have already been shown on the game’s website, including the Dryad Ranger, Plumard, and Samum. Crimson Curse will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
