CD Projekt Red Launches New “Season of the Draconid” Gwent Season
After a brief break, CD Projekt Red has launched the next season for Gwent, the Witcher card game. The last season recently came to an end, and the new season has now begun; the Season of the Draconid. This latest monthly season is themed around the character of Saskia the Dragonslayer. It’s offering players new rewards, including titles themed around The Witcher’s dragons and draconids.
The “Season of the Draconid”
The last season, the Season of the Dryad, was themed around the Scoia’tael and the forests of Brokilon. This time, the monthly season takes inspiration from a specific character. “Saskia is known to the people of the North by many monikers:” explains an update post on the Gwent website; “the Dragonslayer, the Virgin of Aedirn, the People’s Hope. Few know, however, that under this guise of a valiant warrior fighting for the cause of racial coexistence hides a dragon by the name of Saesenthessis.”
Saskia the Dragonslayer was a major character in The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings. Indeed, her father, Borch Three Jackdaws, is set to feature in the upcoming Witcher Netflix series. This season is offering players a set of new avatar frames, new titles, and one new avatar image. The first three reward tiers offer avatar frames decorates with draconid scales, and three new titles; “Dragon Hatchling,” “Young Drake,” and “Wyvern”. The “Young Drake” tier also awards players with an avatar image of Saskia.
The upper tiers are for players who reach a certain position on the Gwent leader-boards during the season. Holding a position between 1,001 and 10,000 earns players the “Slyzard” title and a scalier frame. A position of 101 – 1,000 awards the title of “Great Wyrm” and a frame decorated with a dragon. The final tier, for players who hold the positions of 1 – 100, gain the title of “Golden Dragon.”
