COD: Black Ops Cold War is One of the Best-Selling Games of All Time
We all know that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been selling ridiculously well since its release. But did you know that it has actually achieved historical levels of success? Let’s take a look at some recent data revealing that COD: Black Ops Cold War is one of the best-selling games ever made.
COD: Black Ops Cold War is One of the Best-Selling Games in History
Mat Piscatella, Executive Director & Video Game Industry Advisor at the NPD Group, posted January 2021 video game sales stats:
Perhaps not surprisingly, the data showed a major boost in consumer spending versus a year ago—42%. Considering new consoles came out late last year, this makes sense. Indeed, video game hardware sales increased 144% in January 2021 as compared to January 2020.
Mat shared that January’s top seller was COD: Black Ops Cold War. He also wrote, “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been the best-selling game in the U.S. each month since its November launch, and it now ranks as the 20th best-selling video game in U.S. tracked history.”
That is pretty amazing news! It is not a surprise that the game has performed well, but making it into the historical top 20 is spectacular. It seems like the game must be swiftly catching up with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which has sold more than 30 million units.
Wondering what else is new in the world of Call of Duty? In celebration of Valentine’s Day, a variation of the Kill Confirmed mode called “Kiss Confirmed” will be available through February 18th in Black Ops Cold War. Also, as of a few days ago, League Play became available in the game.
