Could Treyarch Release A Standalone Version of Black Ops 4 Blackout?

Since the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, fans have been thinking about the future. If this is an annual title then what would become of Black Ops 4 Blackout? The battle royale mode of Black Ops 4 is supposed to be supported long time, beyond the life of the main title. Does this mean that Treyarch intends on releasing it as a standalone title?

The question first arose when Treyarch released a cheper version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It includes multiplayer and Blackout (lacking the Zombies mode) for $30. However, over the next year, with the release of the next Call of Duty title, Black Ops 4 will be pretty much forgotten. Black Ops 4 Blackout though? There’s indication that the studio might intend on making the mode a standalone title in the future. Or at least we’d like to believe so.

In a recent post on Reddit, user Shreebington has posted a screenshot from the Black Ops 4 lobby. He claims that he was timed out while playing Blackout and saw the image below:

Will Treyarch make Black Ops 4 Blackout standalone?

This clearly indicates the existence of a trial version of Black Ops 4 Blackout. That’s at least if the screenshot is legit. Undeniably, this looks like an incredible move financially. However, there are so many aspects behind it that we have to consider.

Don’t get us wrong. Being able to buy Blackout without the fat pricetag of the whole game. If the screenshot is to be true then we’ll be getting a free trial of Blackout, with or without the standalone version. If, however, Treyarch and Activision want to support the mode long-term then making it a standalone purchase for those who don’t own it, then this brings the game one step closer to the right model of games as service.

It’s still soon to know if this is all just a mistake in coding or a new feature. If this is indeed happening then we shall know by the time of the announcement of the next Call of Duty title.
