Curse of the Vampire Coast is the next upcoming DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. The expansion was announced last week with a new trailer, and now, Creative Assembly is sharing details of the new faction and its leaders. They have already detailed Luthor Harkon, the Arch Grand Commodore of the Vampire Coast who featured in the DLC trailer. Now, they have revealed the second Vampire Coast Legendary Lord; Count Noctilus.
Who is Count Noctilus?
“Count Noctilus, once known as Nyklaus von Carstein of Sylvania,” explains Creative Assembly; “was drawn to the maelstrom at the heart of the ocean to feast upon its dark magic. He performed a mighty ritual to transport himself, his castle and all his undead minions there to the Galleon’s Graveyard, a mystical place where wrecks and hulks of the seas are drawn. Reborn as Count Noctilus, he raised the shattered remains of sunken warships to form the hull of the Bloody Reaver and ride the waves of the mortal seas once more.”
Count Noctilus in Total War: Warhammer 2
Count Noctilus offers some very different advantages to those of Luthor Harkon. His Faction Effects lets the vampire undertake “war-declaration missions with unique rewards”. He also benefits from increased recruitment capacity for his pirate crew, as well as reduced recruitment duration for the terrifying Necrofex Colossi; the towering, cannon-wielding constructs made from shipwrecks which appeared in the DLC trailer.
Noctilus’ Lord Effects further improves his Necrofex Colossi; they have reduced upkeep costs thanks to his abilities. All of his monstrous units gain bonuses to weapon strength as well. Such is Noctilus’ affinity for the rotting ships that he can actually ride a Necrofex Colossus as a mount. Finally, Noctilus has the unique enchanted item Captain Roth’s Moondial. This grants him boosts to both movement and line of sight on the campaign map. On the battlefield, he can use it to summon units of Zombie Deckhands.
Count Noctilus’ Unique Skills
Master of the Dreadfleet: Thanks to Count Noctilus’ position as the commander of the Dreadfleet, his lord recruitment rank is boosted across the entire faction.
Regenerative Hull: The replenishment rate and recruitment capacity alike for Noctilus’ army are increased.
Vandal: Count Noctilus is a consummate raider, and he gains extra income for raiding settlements. In addition, his ships have boosted horde growth.
Of the Von Carstein Line: Although he may have been reborn, Noctilus is still a vampire of the Von Carstein bloodline. As such, he benefits from rapid regeneration and an affinity for sowing terror.
Sea Curse: Noctilus’ magical powers have allowed him to control the curse of the Galleon’s Graveyard. This causes all Depth Guard, Deck Dropper, and Terrorgheist units in his army to gain increased leadership and melee defence.
Invincible Fleet: Noctilus’ incredible infamy gives him the benefit of being unbreakable, while simultaneously increasing the leadership of his entire army.
