Hive Interactive is a new start-up game development studio based in Dusseldorf, and the studio recently launched a Kickstarter for their first project; The Cow Game. A bizarre and comedic free-to-play title, The Cow Game will be a cross-platform arcade game featuring all manner of cow-based puns and eccentric level design.
The Cow Game: A New Kickstarter From Hive Interactive
“It’s a Cowmergency!” says Hive Interactive, in a pun-laden style which suffuses the project; “Time to step up and save your bovine sisters from impending DOOM… Our cows are under siege and we need you to battle with our cattle to save Planet Earth. From our bovine moooooonbase, you can track, smack and attack enemies on Earth to rescue and bring our cows home. It’s a Cowmergency and you’re our only hope!”
Hive Interactive is seeking to crowd-fund £36,037 for the project. Thus far, the studio has already acquired 11% in just a couple of days, giving them plenty of time to reach their goal. The Kickstarter will remain open throughout January, giving interested gamers plenty of time to make pledges. The studio anticipates a release in April of 2020 and is planning to launch the game on Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and Apple TV. There will also be an in-browser web version, as well as console support for both the PS4 and Xbox One.
The Story and Setting of the Cow Game
“Moonbase HQ (conveniently located on The Moon) requests your help to rescue every single cow from the perils of planet Earth to safety,” says Hive Interactive’s story mode premise; “Will you turn your back on those who need you most or will you herd up and get dirty in the paddocks in a battle against a global cowspiracy?”
The primary feature of the Cow Game is its story mode. This is available in both solo and co-op variations, and takes place across several different settings, with players taking the role of a flying cow. For now, Hive have announced four settings for the story mode. These include the Wild West, Scandinavia, New York City, and Russia. Each setting features a bizarre cast of enemies, from the bear-riding “Russian Macho,” to “Suspicious Corn.”
Other Modes and Features
Hive Interactive is clearly emphasising the comedic angle of the Cow Game’s absurd premise; in a way that could well help the title to stand out among its competition. They also plan to offer a wide variety of different game modes, ensuring that there’s something to appeal to gamers with different tastes. In addition to the full story mode, there will also be several competitive modes. Although the game will be free-to-play, Hive Interactive stress that it won’t be pay-to-win. Cosmetic customisation options will be available in-game, but nothing to give a tangible gameplay advantage.
Interestingly, the studio plans on running a variety of challenges, ranging from missions and quests to puzzles. Players who reach the top of the game’s leaderboards will get actual season rewards. It’s unknown just yet what those might be, but no doubt more will be revealed as development progresses.
