Crackdown 3 Has Not Been Canceled, Team “Continues to Work Hard”

Contrary to reports from earlier this morning, Crackdown 3 has not been canceled. In fact, the team “continues to work hard” on the game for its fans ahead of E3 2018 where we will presumably get more information on the long-awaited title. This was confirmed by Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg on Twitter. Greenberg’s tweet was in direct response to rising fan concern this morning over the game’s rumored cancellation.

Rumors of a Crackdown 3 cancellation, or at the very least another major delay, began popping up after reports were circulating that numerous pre-orders of the game through Amazon Spain were being completely canceled. This was rightfully alarming to fans as it certainly sounded like dire news were ahead for the game. After being in development for so long and having already been delayed multiple times, utter doom for the game definitely seemed plausible.

However, fans can sigh in relief that Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has officially confirmed that the game is still in development. There is no certainty on when Crackdown 3 will actually release but we are sure to find out more at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference in just a couple of weeks. It is currently well into development by Microsoft Studios and Sumo Digital, the same developer behind the recently announced Team Sonic Racing.

Crackdown 3 was originally announced to be released worldwide in 2016 before being delayed to simultaneously launch alongside the Xbox One X console last year in November. However, it didn’t meet that release date either; now having a vague 2018 release date.

Xbox fans weren’t totally wrong to fear a cancellation as it certainly wouldn’t have been the first. Multiple Xbox One exclusives have been canceled this generation from Platinum Games’ highly-anticipated Scalebound to the multiplayer-centric Fable Legends. We are sure to find out more about what Crackdown 3 is all about in just a couple of weeks. If you’re interested in my personal thoughts on the game from last year’s E3, check out this preview.
