God of War released several months ago, and now that the game has been out for some time, much of the title’s concept art has been released online. Those new releases have included such things as a render of Kratos without his new beard; now, concept art and renders have been released of a particularly creepy God of War enemy which was cut from the game before it launched.
God of War’s Cut Four-Armed “Drummer” Enemy
A huge amount of concept art from God of War was recently showcased online as part of its release. Among that collection of artwork were designs created by a senior character artist at Santa Monica Studios; Arda Koyuncu. These particular designs were for an enemy called the “Drummer”; a ghoulish female creature with four arms and a large hide drum strapped to its waist.
It’s unclear what role was planned for the Drummer. The presence of the drum could suggest a role as a sort of leader for the basic enemies; improving their performance with drumming, or perhaps as a witch-like enemy designed to penalize Kratos with magic. Whatever the case, this particular God of War enemy never made it to the final product.
Cory Barlog, the game’s director, has stated that he has no interest in producing DLC for God of War. As a result, it seems unlikely that players will ever get to see what this enemy was intended to do, unless it gets incorporated to a future God of War title. Barlog has stated that he has plans for numerous sequels, so there is perhaps some potential for that. Much of the latest God of War’s lengthy development cycle was due to the developers building the game’s engine and code from the ground up. Barlog has stated that, as a result, fans shouldn’t have to wait as long before a sequel does release.
