Cryteck Shares Thoughts on Next Gen “Game Changer” Feature for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett

What will it be like to play video games on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett? We have heard from the head of PlatinumGames that the next gen consoles will give us “more of the same,” albeit with a good deal more power and sophistication. But how much of a difference will the enhanced hardware add up to in terms of our future gaming experience? Crytek, developer of games like Fary Cry, the Crysis series, and Ryse: Son of Rome, has some insights to share.

What Crytek Said About Gaming on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett

While talking with wccftech, Crytek said, “If visual quality will most likely continue to increase in the same large steps as is expected with any new generation of consoles, the real game changer will certainly be the new fast storage that has been promised. Apart from the obvious advantage of crushing loading times, it will open up quite a lot of possibilities for games to be designed for it with regards to streaming. That’s also a front on which game engines will need to evolve quite drastically, but it’s definitely exciting.”

Crytek’s comments fall well in line with everything else we’ve been hearing about the next gen consoles. It seems like this technology will have especially profound implications for the future of open world gaming. With huge game worlds able to load rapidly (possibly without load screens), we’ll have a fluid, immersive experience unlike any we have had before.

One thing we do not know yet regarding the consoles is what the cost of this impressive technology will be. But Michael Pachter gave a cost estimate of $400. This was following a much higher estimate he gave previously of $800. He openly stated at the time he made that first estimate that it seemed too high to sell. But he also emphasized that he can’t fathom how such powerful technology can be priced in line with previous consoles.
