As modern games get bigger, with more content and more impressive graphics, there has often been a commensurate increase in file size. Some games, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have seen massive file size increases post-launch, taking the game to more than 150GB! Recently, a rumour emerged on Reddit that Cyberpunk 2077 would require 200GB, but this rumour has been quickly debunked.
No, the Cyberpunk 2077 File Size Won’t be 200GB
Given the evidently incredible graphics of Cyberpunk 2077 and the reported wealth of available content in the game, it’s understandable that it would have a large file size. However, 200GB would certainly be extreme, even by modern triple-A standards. Fortunately, it seems that this rumour was nothing more than speculation, as CD Projekt Red’s Global Community Lead today confirmed that it was inaccurate.

“While the CyberpunkGame system requirements are not out yet (they are coming soon),” writes Marcin Momot; “I wanted to address this topic from Reddit. The game won’t take up 200GB when installed. You can expect the required HDD space to be on par with other modern titles.”
Momot didn’t offer any further details on how large the game would actually be. However, by the sound of it, players should learn the actual figure before too long; just as soon as CD Projekt Red releases the official specifications. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077 is unlikely to suffer from the issue of post-launch file size bloat which has plagued triple-A FPS titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and others. As a single-player-only game, Cyberpunk 2077’s updates are likely to be far smaller, with any file size expansions coming primarily from DLC. Offline RPG titles rarely see significant size increases post-launch.
For now, fans will have to wait until CD Projekt Red releases the official system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077. With the game’s release now just a few months away, that is likely to occur relatively soon. Indeed, it’s possible that their release could coincide with an upcoming episode of Night City Wire.
