CD Projekt Red has at last revealed Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay to the general public; via a 48-minute demo which became the most-watched livestream on Twitch for a new game this year. One part of the game which was shown during the demo was the HUD, which appears to be changeable based on ocular implants. In answer to a fan tweet, the game’s Community Lead stated that players will be able to customize their HUD in the game.
The Cyberpunk 2077 HUD Customization Options
During the course of the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay stream, the protagonist pays a visit to their Ripperdoc; a surgeon who specialises in cybernetic implants. There, V gets a couple of new implants installed. One is a grip to improve their weapon handling on the inside of one hand. The other was a new eyeball. The installation showed the player losing sight, before regaining it in the new ocular implant before it was installed; this let them see V from the outside briefly, before the Ripperdoc picked up the eye and implanted it. Once it was installed, the eyeball added a variety of HUD elements to the player’s view, with all manner of in-game informational popups.
It seems likely that a basic ocular implant will be one of the first implants given to players in Cyberpunk 2077, serving as an in-game explanation for why the player has a HUD in the first place. A fan who saw the demo asked Marcin Momot, the Cyberpunk 2077 Community Lead, whether some of the HUD elements could be turned off. Momot responded; “We are planning on allowing players to turn off/on a lot of the HUD elements.”

It seems likely that some HUD elements may be tied to different implants. However, it would also make sense if players are able to customize the settings of whichever implant they have installed; thus turning the different elements on and off. The question referred directly to the game’s floating damage counters, but Momot’s response suggests plenty more will be customizable.
